Help for Needy Pets Due to Brooklyn Foreclosure Homes for Sale

Posted by sharon

Some of the unsuspecting victims of the growing number of Brooklyn foreclosure homes for sale are the pets. Often, they are left behind by homeowners when their properties are foreclosed.

But hope is given to these needy animals under the fund raising event, Brooklyn Bridge Pup Crawl. The event aims to raise funds to provide food and shelter to pets that lost their homes because of foreclosures.

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), almost 1 million pets were abandoned by their owners following a foreclosure. The fund raising event involves the parade of pets from Manhattan across Brooklyn to call attention to the condition of these needy animals who were unknowing victims of the increasing Brooklyn foreclosure homes for sale.

Joseph Hassan, Pub Crawl organizer, said that the event hopes to provide assistance to homeless animals, rescue groups and overburdened shelters that are trying to survive the current economic downturn and foreclosure.

Hassan is hoping that if people across the country would be made aware of the astounding number of homeless animals due to foreclosure and the financial burden it puts on animal rescue groups and shelters, they would be motivated to make a donation to their local shelters.

Hassan and his team of volunteers reached out to various businesses that donated products. One of these companies is Florida-based Lulu Leash which donated illuminated dog leashes to be distributed to each dog participating in the event. All proceeds from the fund raising event will be distributed to various animal shelters in California and Florida.

The Brooklyn Bridge Pub Crawl fund raising is just one of the events in New York City designed to draw attention to the condition of needy animals affected by the foreclosure problem. One event is the Bet for Pets Casino at the Marquee in Chelsea. Participants will have a chance to gamble with celebrities. The event hopes to raise about $20,000 to help a low-cost spay/neuter clinic.

Another event is the Stray from the Heart’s Oktoberfest which will be held at the Boat Basin CafĂ©. Funds that will be raised from the event will help support the organization’s rescue effort. The annual adoption event, Adopt-A-Cat will benefit about 24 annual rescue groups.
