Cuyahoga Party Held to Help Control Population of Abandoned Pets

Posted by Joseph Smith

To help pet owners who are having difficulties feeding their pets, Cuyahoga is holding a Pet Party to raise money for pet food. The benefit event for Peace for Animals (PAX) and the organization’s Pet Food Bank is designed to discourage owners from abandoning their dog or cat and adding to an already expanding population of abandoned pets.

The event will be held at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds in Ohio. Owners of dogs and cats are invited to attend the party along with their pets. Proceeds from the fund raising event will help owners buy food for their pets and minimize the chance of these pets being given to the care of a cat or puppy shelter.

According to PAX officials, they deliver pet food to people who have domestic animals and are finding it hard to feed them, particularly those who are facing foreclosures. They also plan to offer gift cards so that owners can provide for their pets’ basic needs during difficult economic times. The event will include contests on pet costumes, pet tricks and owner-pet look-alikes. There will also be a fashion show, an obstacle course and a race for turtles.

The fund raising party was launched by PAX in order to control the number of abandoned pets in the county which is largely caused by owners unable to feed or provide basic care for their pets. Along with the Pet Party, auditions for the David Letterman’s Stupid Pet Tricks will also be held.

Organizers plan to record the auditions and send it to the David Letterman show. The auditions are also part of the county-wide effort to raise money to help pet owners and provide care and food to homeless animals that are usually found abandoned by people buying houses for sale during preliminary home inspections.

PAX officials have reported that they have observed an escalation in the number of abandoned pets in Cuyahoga and an increase in the number of owners who can hardly feed their cat or dog. They added that most of these owners are reluctant to have their pet euthanized or leave them in animal shelters.
