Abandoned Foreclosure Pets Expected to Increase in East Valley

Posted by Joseph Smith

With foreclosure numbers predicted to reach historic highs this year, a pet rescue organization in East Valley, Arizona, is bracing itself for a surge in the number of abandoned foreclosure pets in the area. According to the rescue group, a lot of foreclosed homeowners simply leave their pets behind as they move to another place.

Officials from the Lost Our Home Pet Foundation stated that they are worried that more homeless pets will need assistance and places to live in this year as foreclosed property numbers reach a new high. It also does not help the foundation's cause that abandoned dogs shelter facilities and other pet care locations are also starting to close shops as they too suffer from the housing market crisis and the recession.

The foundation is a no-kill animal rescue group that specializes in saving pets abandoned by their owners, who lost their properties to homes foreclosure. Currently, the foundation has 35 volunteers who take care of the abandoned pets and help look for places where they can be accommodated. However, the foundation stated that the number of volunteers is not enough to handle the sheer volume of homeless and abandoned animals that require attention.

According to the group, they were forced to put 47 abandoned foreclosure pets on a wait-list because there are no available homes for them right now. Meanwhile, the foundation is stepping up efforts to find foster homes for the pets that they currently have. The group is also trying to get more donations to support its animal food bank and to provide for pets' medical costs.

As part of its efforts to aid pet owners who are facing foreclosures, the group also added a feature to its website which offers information on apartments and houses where pets are allowed. According to the volunteers at the foundation, some foreclosed homeowners are willing to take their pets; it is just that most of them are unable to find rental homes where pets are accepted.

The foundation has stated that they have been able to rescue a big number of abandoned foreclosure pets, but they cannot continue doing so unless they get some outside help. The foundation has called on the community to volunteer, offer a home to some of the pets, or donate to the foundation.
